BigPond is one of the popular email services provided by Telstra. Because of the tremendous benefits of the Gmail app, many users would rather access their BigPond email on their phones through this app. It is easy to do this configuration via the Gmail app, and it will only take a few steps. Step 1: Open the Gmail App
The first step is to open the Gmail application on the mobile phone. For those that do not have the mobile application, it could be downloaded from the Android market (for Android devices) or the Apple store (for iPhones).
Step 2: Add a New Email Account
Now that the Gmail application is running, search for your profile picture or the icon at the top right corner of the screen. Click on it, and a menu will be displayed. Select “Add another account” from this menu. The next screen will be shown asking what type of email account you want to add.

Step 4: Enter Your BigPond Email Address
This should be your BigPond address. You will be prompted to type in your BigPond email account. Enter your full BigPond email, i.e., yourname@bigpond.com, then tap Next.
Step 5: Choose Account Type
Moving on, you will now have to make a choice between IMAP and POP. Commutatively subscribing to a large number of secondary accounts is not advisable to the users of the computer network as it leads to the absence of centralized log-on. Tap “IMAP” then “Next.”
Step 6: Enter Your Password
For the BigPond email account, please enter the corresponding password. Remember to check the spelling to avoid errors when trying to log in. Tap “Next” to move on forward.
Step 7: Completing the Incoming Server Settings
Next, the user will have to configure the incoming server settings. As for BigPond, the settings are normally:
IMAP Server: imap.telstra.com
Port: 993
Security Type: SSL/TLS
Check these details and tap on “Next.”
Step 8: The Outgoing Server Settings
Now the next step will be for outgoing server settings:
SMTP Server: smtp.telstra.com
Port: 465
Security Type: SSL/TLS
Put in these details and then tap on Next.
Step 9: Account Options
At this point, you will be able to see some options for your account, such as how long after new mails arrive at the app do you want it to check for any new mails, whether or not you would like to be notified when new mails are received, etc. Modify these preferences to your liking and press “Next.”
Step 10: Final Step
Now you will have to specify your name; this is the name that will be shown when sending emails from this account. After entering your name, press “Next.” Setting up your BigPond email in the Gmail app should now be complete.
